Providence Swedish

Providence Swedish has served the Puget Sound region since the first Providence hospital in Seattle opened in 1877 and the first Swedish hospital opened in 1910. The two organizations affiliated in 2012 and today comprise the largest healthcare delivery system in Western Washington, with 24,000 caregivers, eight hospitals and 244 clinics throughout Western Washington – from Everett to Centralia.

A not-for-profit family of organizations, Providence Swedish provides about $500 million in community benefit in the Puget Sound region each year. The health system offers a comprehensive range of services and specialty and subspecialty care in several clinical areas, including cancer, cardiovascular health, neurosciences, orthopedics, digestive health and women’s and children’s care.

Providence Swedish continues to support patient access to LGBTQIA+ specific healthcare services including care for our transgender and gender-diverse communities. The LGBTQIA+ program team works with our Health Equity and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) teams to foster an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment for our LGBTQIA+ patients and our LGBTQIA+ identified caregivers. We know that health doesn’t begin in the hospital, it begins in our homes, neighborhoods, and communities. That’s why we are deepening our relationships with community-based organizations to address the root causes of health inequities. Through advocacy, collaborative leadership and data-informed planning, we are co-creating solutions that reflect the needs and strengths of the communities we serve.

Together, we are putting our Mission into action—meeting people where they are, strengthening access to care, and building healthier, more equitable communities–investing in communities, removing barriers, and expanding access to whole-person care. In 2025 alone, Providence Swedish delivered $534.6 million in community benefit, ensuring individuals and families receive the care, dignity, and support they deserve.

Our Approach to Quality

Our doctors and staff work hard every day to make sure patients get the right care every time. 

We believe patients should have accurate and easy-to-understand information to make the best health care decisions for themselves and their families. It’s an integral part of our mission to make a difference in people’s lives by improving the health and well-being of each person we serve by providing excellent patient care.

We are honored to provide care for more than 800,000 people both in the hospital setting, as well as in our many specialty and primary care clinics throughout the greater Seattle area.

Our Work Has Not Gone Unrecognized

At Providence Swedish, our commitment to providing exceptional, compassionate care continues to earn national recognition. In the 2025 U.S. News & World Report rankings, Providence Swedish hospitals throughout the Puget Sound region were recognized among the nation’s best, earning 72 Best Hospital and High Performing specialty awards.

These honors recognize excellence in a variety of specialties, procedures and treatments, including care for complex, high-risk and life-threatening conditions. High performing ratings highlight hospitals that demonstrate outstanding outcomes, expertise and capabilities in areas where patients may be seeking specialized care for rare conditions or complex diagnoses.

This recognition reflects the dedication of our physicians, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, caregivers and teams who work together every day to deliver high-quality care and improve the health of the communities we serve.
